Apple wood wand

Apple_wood_wand_by_AngelusLupusSmall

This is the first 'proper' wand I made and also the first I sold. (I had previously tried a few prototypes which I was later convinced were in fact good enough to sell)
It was made from a branch that I cut from my neighbour's apple tree (which grows far more suitable branches than our trees which are pruned hard for fruiting). I prune the tree and ask only for a few branches as payment
It is entirely hand made with simple tools like planes, a hacksaw and files. I have no lathe and the only power tool I've used is a hand held sander for when my arm is aching from using sandpaper.

Sycamore wand

The second proper wand I made. This one was made from a branch cut from the sycamore tree at the bottom of my garden. I don't know what inspired me to create the ring near the tip and I guess people didn't like it cos it didn't sell. I liked how the concave groove on the handle turned out, but after the success of my first wand I was a little dissapointed with this one. Thankfully I think I've improved since

Tools: Plane, sander, hacksaw, rasp and various shaped files

Hawthorn wand

I made this wand from hawthorn, branches of which were pruned from another tree at the bottom of my garden. It's a denser wood than the sycamore, more like the apple wood, but paler and with interesting flecks of brown that appear as you carve into it.
Once again this was made without power tools, and tho the design was quite simple, it was pleasanly tactile. This was another one I was fortunate enough to sell.
